Honourable teachers, respected judges, and my dear brothers. Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah.
Today my topic is: "The Importance of Dawah Among Non-Muslims in the Modern Era." Before I explain, let us understand what Dawah means. Dawah means inviting people towards the truth with wisdom, kindness, and beautiful manners.
Qur’anic Foundation of Dawah
Allah commands us in the Qur’an:
﴿ اُدْعُ اِلٰى سَبِيْلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ ﴾
Translation: “Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching.” (Surah An-Nahl, 16:125)
This ayah teaches that Dawah must be gentle and wise. We should speak softly, respectfully, and patiently.
Another ayah says:
Translation: “There is no compulsion in religion.” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:256)
This proves that Dawah never forces anyone. It is only explaining the truth clearly and peacefully.
Sunnah Foundation of Dawah
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
« بَلِّغُوا عَنِّي وَلَوْ آيَةً »
Translation: “Convey from me even if it is one verse.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
This hadith shows that every Muslim, scholar or ordinary person, has a responsibility to share the message of Islam—even a little.
Another hadith:
« لِأَنْ يَهْدِيَ اللهُ بِكَ رَجُلًا وَاحِدًا خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْ حُمْرِ النَّعَم »
Translation: “If Allah guides one person through you, it is better for you than the finest of wealth.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
This hadith shows the great reward of Dawah.
📌 Why Dawah is Important in the Modern Era
In today’s world, people from different religions live together. Through the internet, social media, and global communication, information spreads very fast. But unfortunately, many misunderstandings about Islam also spread quickly.
Misrepresentation in movies, media, and news creates false impressions about Muslims. Many non-Muslims think Islam encourages violence or hatred, which is completely wrong.
Therefore, in this modern time, Dawah is more important than before. Only Muslims can explain Islam correctly.
📌 1. Removing Misunderstandings
Dawah helps remove confusion about Islam. When we speak gently, explain logically, and show kindness, people realise that Islam is a religion of mercy.
Allah describes Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as:
﴿ وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنٰكَ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً لِّلْعٰلَمِينَ ﴾
Translation: “We did not send you except as a mercy to all the worlds.” (Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:107)
This ayah shows the peaceful nature of Islam.
📌 2. Improving Relationships with Non-Muslims
Dawah improves relations and reduces hatred. When we speak politely, people respect us. The world needs peace more than ever, and Islam teaches peace.
📌 3. Dawah Through Good Manners
Sometimes actions speak louder than words. Good manners, honesty, kindness, and smiling—all are Dawah.
The Prophet (SAW) said:
« إِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ لِأُتَمِّمَ مَكَارِمَ الْأَخْلَاق »
Translation: “I was sent to perfect good character.” (Musnad Ahmad)
So, the greatest Dawah is our character.
📌 4. Using Technology for Dawah
Now we can give Dawah through YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, and messages. We can speak to people in any country. A small effort can reach thousands.
📌 5. Dawah Is a Responsibility
Allah has chosen Muslims to represent Islam. Even if one person learns the truth, Allah gives huge reward.
📌 Conclusion
My dear brothers, Dawah is needed more today than at any time in history. We must explain Islam with wisdom, patience, and excellent manners. We must show the world that Islam is mercy, justice, peace, and kindness.
May Allah give us the strength to represent Islam beautifully. May He guide us and guide others through us. Ameen.
Thank you so much.
